Leaf Pickup, College Finances, Raise the Roof and More This Week

Here's what you need to know this week in Peabody.

Today is Monday, Nov. 11. Here's a look at the week ahead in Peabody.

  1. This week is another fall leaf and yard waste collection week. Pickup is usually on your regular trash day, but it's delayed one day this week due to Veterans Day on Monday.
  2. Lung cancer screenings: Lahey Medical Center, Peabody encourages local veterans to come in on Monday for a free low-dose lung cancer screening. There's a questionnaire to complete to determine your eligibility and veterans that meet the criteria can schedule screenings right then. Lahey says many veterans are at a 25-to-50 percent higher risk for lung cancer than civilians because of occupational exposure to carcinogens and a higher prevalence of tobacco use among military personnel.
  3. John Delorey of College Planning Services presents the free workshop, How to Send Your Child to College Without Going Broke, Wednesday at Peabody High. Registration begins at 6:45 p.m. and the program starts at 7 p.m. in the school library.
  4. The Peabody High drama club Stage One presents "Our Town," starting Thursday. Shows run through Friday and Saturday
  5. Citizens for Adequate Housing is Raising the Roof Friday at the Danversport Yacht Club with its annual fundraising night. There will be silent and live auctions, entertainment and more. Tickets are $100 per person.
  6. The 32nd annual craft fair and apple bake sale put on by the Peabody Historical Society is this Saturday at Brooksby Farm.
  7. The One Fund Peabody road race is set for Saturday at Lt. Ross Park. There is a 6-mile run and a 3-mile walk. All proceeds benefit the One Fund Boston for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
