Dress Down for Hunger on Friday; It's American Education Week

Here's what you need to know to get your week started in Peabody.

Today is Monday, Nov. 18. Here's a look at the week ahead in Peabody.

  1. Curious what the Peabody unit of the Boys & Girls Club are up to? You can check the schedule right here at the Higgins Middle School website.
  2. The Zoning Board of Appeals meets Monday (7 p.m.) in Wiggin Auditorium at City Hall. You can find the agenda online here.
  3. The Peabody Public Schools are celebrating American Education Week with an open house on Thursday at the Kiley School and some special guests. Deputy Commissioner of Education Alan Ingram, state Sen. Joan Lovely and state Reps. Ted Speliotis and Leah Cole will all be stopping by for the open house from 3-5 p.m. at 21 Johnson St. and there will be exhibits from each school. Peabody High culinary students will also be providing light refreshments while the Performing Arts Departments offers the entertainment.
  4. Dress down for hunger on Friday. Haven from Hunger is asking local businesses to participate in a "Dress Down Day for Hunger" on Nov. 22. The food pantry asks employers to offer their employees an option to dress down for the day for a suggested donation of $5 to $10 that goes to the Haven. The pantry is located at 71 Wallis St. and serves residents from Peabody, Salem and Lynnfield.   5. The annual Scandinavian Fair at Community Covenant Church is this Saturday from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  6. The West Memorial Elementary School is also holding it annual craft fair this Saturday at 10 a.m.
  7. The second annual Latkepalooza Chanukah Celebration at Aviv Centers for Living is this Sunday from noon - 3 p.m. It's a free afternon of fun aimed at getting into the Chanukah spirit. There will be latke tastings, workshops, activities for children, dancing, vendors, lectures, a photo booth and a kosher lunch and snacks available for purchase.
