Who's the Next Harry Ankeles?

Make your nominations by Aug. 13 for the 2012 Harry Ankeles Community Service Award.

Do you know a business person in Peabody who actively volunteers their time in community service programs or otherwise philanthropic or charitable endeavors? Is this person a good leader and affiliated with the ?

The PACC is seeking nominations once again for its annual Harry Ankeles Community Service Award, which recognizes a local business leader who “exemplifies a spirit of selfless dedication to the community.

The award honors the late Harry Ankeles, a Peabody resident and member of the Chamber. Several members of PACC came up with the award 21 years ago to recognize business leaders who contribute to the cultural heritage of the city in the same way that Ankeles did throughout his lifetime.

Past winners of the award include former Mayor Michael Bonfanti, late Mayor Peter Torigian, Charles and Martha Holden, William Power, Arthur Gordon, Warren Waugh and former City Solicitor Lawrence O’Keefe.

To nominate an individual for the award, submit a brief description of the person based on the following criteria:

  1. Person lives or works in Peabody
  2. Is a Chamber affiliate (current member, past member or employee of Chamber member)
  3. Is active in multiple community service groups (brief description of community related activities, service programs, philanthropic programs, etc.)
  4. Demonstrates leadership
  5. Volunteer-based work
  6. Has instilled a lasting legacy for the community

You can also include any additional information that the nomination committee should consider about the candidate’s qualifications.

The deadline for nominations is Aug. 13. The 2012 recipient of the Ankeles Award will be honored at the Chamber’s annual dinner and award ceremony in November.

All nominations should be made in writing and submitted to Peabody Area Chamber of Commerce, 24 Main St., Peabody, MA 01960, or via fax at 978-532-7227 or e-mail to pcc@peabodychamber.com.
