Have you Recently Changed Your Name?

If the answer to that question is yes, then it is important to report your name change to the social security administration before you file your tax returns. Your name needs to match what the IRS has in their records. If your name does not match their records then you may receive a notice or your efile may  not go through successfully. An example of why you may have had a name change was that you recently got married. You need to file Form SS-5 to report the name change, this can be found at SSA.gov.
