Rochas Pick Up Pair of NEC Awards; Scacchi and Digiacomo Named MVPs

Peabody High senior Catarina Rocha wins NEC North Runner of the Year Award while cross country coach and dad Jose Rocha wins Coach of the Year. Carolyn Scacchi and Kara Digiacomo won MVP honors for volleyball and soccer, respectively.

You might say, "like father, like daughter."

Peabody High senior Catarina Rocha won this year's Northeastern Conference North Girls' Runner of the Year Award for cross country while head coach and dad Jose Rocha won Coach of the Year. He does, however, have to share honors with Beverly girls' coach Dave Jellerson.

Both the boys' and girls' squads also earned a share of the Sportsmanship Award along with Lynn Classical, Revere, Lynn English and Salem.

The boys' North All-Stars include Tanners Drew Fossa, Ben Braz, Cody Picardy, Richie Fournier, Alex Marcus, Cody Jordan and James Christopher, while over on the girls' roster it's Catarina Rocha, Heather MacLean, Lauren Barrett, Sydney May, Sam Allen, Mary Leach and Antonia Pagliuca.

The Tanners also picked up Most Valuable Player honors this fall in volleyball (junior Carolyn Scacchi) and soccer (senior Kara Digiacomo).

Scacchi led her team to its first NEC championship in its first season in the league and was also the first Peabody player to rack up more than 200 kills in her career with 205. Joining her on the NEC All-Star roster was Olivia Summit.

And joining Digiacomo on the soccer All-Star roster were twin sister Victoria, Cayla Bucci, Madison Doherty, Hayley Dowd and Bianca Muscato. Boys' soccer All-Stars were Shawn Bernardo, Vlasi Duni and Tommy Drover.

Meanwhile golf coach Peter Cronan picked up Coach of the Year honors and Athan Goulos and Nolan Franey made the All-Star squad.

And Peabody High field hockey picked up this year's Sportsmanship Award and Sabrina Rizzo, Holly Smith and Joanne Frangias were named to the All-Star squad.
