Peabody XC Sweeps NEC Meet Yet Again

Both the boys' and girls' teams for the Tanners took home another league title at this past weekend's championship meet at Bradley Palmer State Park.

Marblehead runners posted some impressive times and Swampscott's Matthew Mahoney (15:38) even handily won the race, but none of them could come close to snagging another league title from the Peabody High boys' cross country team on Saturday.

The Northeastern Conference Championships were held at Bradley Palmer State Park in Topsfield and the Tanners ensured their long-running streak remained intact as they finished five runners within the top 10 for 32 points versus 55 for Marblehead. All seven Peabody runners were in the top 15.

The Peabody boys' results were as follows: Drew Fossa (2nd, 16:08), Ben Braz (5th, 16:35), Marcelo Rocha (6th, 16:38), Riley Dowd (9th, 16:52), Alex Greco (10th, 16:53), Richie Fournier (11th, 17:09) and Cody Jordan (15th, 17:24).

The girls' results were a whole lot closer, but the Tanners still pulled ahead for another win. Peabody finished with 43 points, Beverly had 49 and Marblehead 51.

Danvers' Catalina Dominick actually won the race in 18:20, but then Peabody placed five runners within the top 13. All seven teammates finished in the top 17.

The Peabody girls' results were as follows: Sam Allen (5th, 19:25), Lauren Barrett (7th, 19:44), Antonia Pagliuca (8th, 19:46), Sydney May (10th, 20:09), Julia Merchant (13th, 20:46) Emily Christensen (14th, 20:48) and Annie Pollock (17th, 21:03).
