It's been a tough start to the season so far for the Peabody High boys' basketball team.

The Tanners lost to non-league opponent Somerville Wednesday night at home, 60-49, and then suffered defeat against league rival Salem Friday night, 57-35. Next up for the boys is Beverly Tuesday (7 p.m.) on the Panthers home court.

The girls' team, however, had just the opposite game against Salem, shutting down the Witches, 54-37, in the season opener. Carolyn Scacchi was the high scorer for Peabody with 14 points. The Panthers travel to Peabody Tuesday (7 p.m.).
