Newton SE Ends Championship Dreams for Peabody West

Peabody West lost Sunday's third round game in the Final Four, 5-3, to Newton South East.

The Peabody West Little League all-stars saw their dreams for a state championship come to an end Sunday afternoon against a strong Newton South East team.

Peabody went down swinging in a 5-3 loss, going 1-2 in the state finals round robin tournament.

On Sunday in West Roxbury, Newton South East took an early lead, and it wasn't until the bottom of the fifth inning that Peabody finally scored a run to make it 3-1.

From there, both teams added a couple more runs apiece, but Peabody batters ended the game on a strikeout.

Newton South East will now play Hanover Monday (7 p.m.) for the championship. In this series, Peabody lost to Hanover and then routed Holden before Sunday's loss.

The last time Peabody West won the state title was in 2009 and made it all the way to Williamsport. The following year, the Tanner City kids lost to Southboro in the state finals. They also won the state title in 2006.
