Heil Inducted Into State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame

Jane Heil has been coaching the Lady Tanners for 33 years and saw her 500th career win last December, which automatically qualified her for the hall of fame.

Longtime Peabody High girls' basketball coach Jane Heil was recently inducted into the Mass. Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Heil, 66, was formally added to the ranks of coaching greats at a banquet held Nov. 24 at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.

She's coached the Peabody High girls' basketball program for 33 years and captured numerous league titles, made countless playoff runs and won one state title in that time.

Coaches are automatic shoo-ins when they reach 500 career victories, which Heil achieved last December when her girls beat Everett.

Along with Heil, two other coaches who also notched their 500th win milestones last year were also inducted into the MBCA Hall of Fame last month -- Nipmuc Regional High Coach Jim Grant and Bromfield High Coach Tom Hill.

The Salem News recently caught up with Heil to talk about the award and reflect  back on her career. You can find that story here.
