Goulos Tees Off at State Championship Monday

Peabody High's Athan Goulos is among 37 individual golfers competing for a shot at the state title.

After shooting a 77 at the North Division I Qualifer on Oct. 22, Peabody High senior Athan Goulos is hitting the greens at the Norton Country Club on Nov. 5 for the Division I State Championship.

Goulos will be among 37 individual golfers competing that day.

The MIAA says the medalist for the tournament will be the golfer with the lowest score and he will receive the award as the Division I State Champion. If a tie exists between two or more golfers for the medalist of the tournament, a sudden death format will take place, starting on Hole 1 until a winner is determined.

The top three individuals at the tournament also qualify to compete in the New England Interscholastic Golf Championships held in New Hamphire in June.

The rest of the Tanners golf team did not fare as well at the divisional qualifier, finishing 14th with a total score of 348.
