The 3rd Annual Snowshoe Classic at Brooksby Farm will be here Feb. 9 (snow provided) -- are you ready to race?

The event, which is sponsored by Peabody Recreation, is a 5K snowshoe/trail race and winds its way around the orchards and wooded trails at Brooksby Farm.

In the event there isn't enough snow to snowshoe in, the race will become a trail run instead. That's actually what happened the first year of the event. A final decision will be made Feb. 6.

Peabody Recreation says the first 100 registered racers will receive a pair of high performance wool socks and a fleece headband. There's also a raffle and the top finishers overall, by gender and age will also receive prizes.

The registration fee is $20 before Feb. 1 and $25 afterward. You can sign up online or also on Feb. 9. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and the race is at 10 a.m.

If you're in need of snowshoes, a limited amount are available for rental, but you need to reserve them ahead of time.
