Dowd Breaks School Record as Girls' Soccer Powers Forward [PHOTOS]
The Lady Tanners soccer club put away three straight shutouts in convincing fashion this past week, as junior Hayley Dowd also eclipsed the school career record on goals.
Another trio of wins for GIRLS' SOCCER, as the Lady Tanners trampled Salem Wednesday, 6-0, after the game was rescheduled on account of a flood, then Winthrop Thursday for an 8-0 shutout, followed by a beating on Saugus Monday, 7-0. The Salem win was also marked by a new school scoring record by none other than junior forward Hayley Dowd with 92 career goals. The Lady Tanners (8-0-2) are ranked 12th in the state. They play at Swampscott on Wednesday (4 p.m.) and then host Lowell on Saturday (3 p.m.).
The BOYS' SOCCER club wasn't so lucky against Lynn Classical on Wednesday. The scored was tied up at the half at 2, but Classical got the winning goal in the final minutes of play. The Tanners turned the tide against Lynn English on Monday, however, pushing ahead 2-1 and putting the season at 5-3 for Peabody. The boys host Beverly Wednesday (6:30 p.m.) and Central Catholic on Friday (4 p.m.)
FIELD HOCKEY stomped Revere, 6-0, last Wednesday, drew a tie with Swampscott on Thursday, 2-2 -- both goals coming from Alaina Warren -- and then went on knock off Gloucester, 3-1, Monday morning. Peabody (6-2-3) hosts Salem on Wednesday (6:30 p.m.), then Everett on Thursday (3:45 p.m.)

The Lady Tanners' VOLLEYBALL club looks to be back on track after suffering four straight losses in two weeks, then doing the exact opposite the past two weeks against Hamilton-Wenham, Beverly, Revere and Salem -- all 3-0 shutouts. Peabody, now 5-4, was scheduled to host Lowell Monday morning, then travel to Saugus on Tuesday (5 p.m.) and Masconomet on Thursday (5 p.m.).
GOLF is scheduled to host Marblehead Tuesday (3:45 p.m.) and then play Salem Wednesday (4 p.m.).

CROSS-COUNTRY is scheduled to travel to Swampscott Tuesday (3:45 p.m.).

BOYS' SOCCER heads into the remainder of this week, 7-2-2, coming off a loss Monday against Malden Catholic, 2-1, after three straight wins over North Shore Technical High School, Arlington Catholic and Austin Prep. The Crusaders are scheduled to travel to Saint Mary's on Thursday (6 p.m.) and host Beverly on Friday (6 p.m.).
GIRLS' SOCCER settled for a 4-2-4 record after coming to a standstill with Austin Prep on Saturday, 0-0. The Lady Crusaders host Saint Mary's High School Thursday (4 p.m.) and Danvers on Saturday (6:30 p.m.) this week. Coach Karen Guillemette said that among the players that gave strong performances last week were senior defenders Maura Doyle and Alicia Villett, both of Peabody, and junior defender Sam Borelli of Peabody.
FIELD HOCKEY picked up a win on Thursday against Everett, 3-0, as senior Jillian Luti scored her first varsity goal. The Lady Crusaders then fell to Acton-Boxborough at home on Monday, 6-1. Fenwick is now 4-7-1 for the season and is scheduled to travel to Westford on Tuesday (4 p.m.) and Central Catholic on Saturday (4 p.m.).
The Crusaders' VOLLEYBALL club (8-4) sweeped Matignon Tuesday, 3-0, then dropped a 3-0 match to Cardinal Spellman on Thursday before defeating Arlington Catholic on Monday, 3-0. Fenwick hosts Bedford on Friday (5:15 p.m.).
Fenwick FOOTBALL continues to struggle this season, falling this time to North Reading, 43-26, on Thursday. The Hornets put all their points up on the scoreboard to the Crusaders' single TD by Fran Hannan at the end of three quarters. In the fourth, Nick Bona and Charles Mastrellis (2 TDs) helped put their team back in the game, but the Crusaders only converted on one of the touchdowns. Fenwick is now 1-4 and travels to Hamilton-Wenham on Saturday (2 p.m.).
BOYS' and GIRLS' CROSS-COUNTRY competed in the Bay State Invitational in Wrentham on Oct. 1, with the girls placing 15th in the Division 2 race. The top finisher for the girls was Ariana Maida in ninth with 20:35. The boys' team did not compete as a team. The top individual finisher for the squad was Bryan Mendes in 30th with 18:25. The Lady Crusaders then raced ahead of visiting Cardinal Spellman on Monday, 24-31, while the boys' squad took a big loss, 18-43. The runners head to Lowell Catholic Tuesday (3:45 p.m.) and then the Catholic Memorial Invitational on Saturday (9 a.m.).
The Fenwick GOLF team dropped its home match with Austin Prep last Wednesday, 163-147, and is next scheduled to play Arlington Catholic on Oct. 19, still hunting for a win this season.
