Your Guide: 280 High School Football Players Showcase Their Skills Saturday

Forty different teams of seven players each are competing in the East Regional at Bishop Fenwick July 27 for the annual Under Armor 7-on-7 Tournament.

Some of the top high school football players in the region will be converging at Bishop Fenwick this weekend for the 3rd Annual Under Armour Northeast 7-on-7 Tournament.

Until 2011 when Under Armour began sponsoring the tournament, it was known as the Swampscott/Lynnfield 7-on-7 shootout. The intent, which has remained the same just on a grander scale, was simply a way for teammates to compete together in the summer and showcase their skills.

Fenwick hosts 40 teams on Saturday (10 a.m.) for the East Regional while Oliver Ames was the South site and Exeter, N.H. the North host site -- those two tournaments were held last weekend.

Each team plays at least four games in pool play within eight groupings. The top two teams in each pool advance to the playoffs, which is another round of pool play as the contenders for the New England Championship are slowly whittled down.

The playoffs and championship games are also held at Fenwick on July 30 from 4-9 p.m.

The North Shore teams playing in the tournament are Bishop Fenwick, Danvers, St. John's Prep, Salem, Swampscott, Hamilton-Wenham, Pingree, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Gloucester, Ipswich, Lynn English, Lynn Classical, Masconomet and Triton.

Several of the teams also played in the North Regional at Exeter High School, according to the official scoreboard.

Fenwick is located at 99 Margin St. in Peabody.
