North Shore Food Buzz: Bring In Da Pho!

A roundup of restaurant and food news from around the North Shore.

When you're looking for a night out and a break from cooking, you want to know what's new not just where you live, but also in nearby North Shore communities.

Here's our round up of the latest food news in our area:

Peabody

Love Maki? The owners of the Peabody sushi haven have a new North Shore venture. This time it's Vietnamese Restaurant and Sushi Bar by the shore in Swampscott. Bring in da noise, bring in da pho!

Lynnfield

Restaurant openings continue at MarketStreet Lynnfield. This week Wagamama started slinging Japanese noodles. Staying with Asian cuisine, we found out that sushi palace FuGaKyu plans an April opening, also in the mammoth shopping center.

Wakefield

Apple cider donuts. They're a New England tradition. Witness this mouth-watering video of the seasonal donuts being made at Honey Dew Donuts. They make 3,000 donuts a night at the Wakefield facility.

Danvers

Some of my favorite healthy meals on the North Shore have been served by Daily Harvest Cafe. The High Street retreat for fresh, locally sourced sandwiches and meals will soon add beer and wine to their mix, pending state approval.

Salem

I'll admit that I'm surprised there aren't more places to buy fresh fish on the North Shore. So I'm excited at the prospect of Turner's Seafood opening this month on Church Street. There'll be a fish market attached to the restaurant.

Swampscott

Here are some more details about the new Vietnamese Restaurant and Sushi Bar opening Nov. 18 on Humphrey: Specialties will include pho, kobe and brown rice sushi. If you've never had pho, a type of traditional noodle soup, you've got to try it.

Beverly

Sure, after Tuesday's election, Beverly has its first new mayor in 18 years. But in other Garden City election news, Beverly High students picked Freeda's Pizza & Calzone as the pie mayor of the city

Hamilton

In New England, competitions for best chowder can approach the level of intensity seen when Southerners vie for best barbecue. So it was with great satisfaction that Hamilton's 15 Walnut Bistro walked away with the trophy from Chowder Fest in Ipswich.
