Sapienza Announces Plans to Retire in June

Peabody High principal plans to retire at end of June after more than 40 years in the district.

Before he gets to ride off into the sunset this summer, Peabody's Interim School Superintendent Dr. Herb Levine will also be tasked with finding a new high school principal as well.

The School Committee will vote Tuesday night on the , Joseph Mastrocola, and now Principal Edward Sapienza says he plans to retire at the end of this school year.

Sapienza submitted a letter to Levine and committee members last week, notifying them of his intention to retire from the Peabody Public Schools on June 30. He said he is in the process of submitting paperwork to the Mass. Teachers' Retirement Board.

"I would like to thank you and the Peabody School Committee for your support and contidence in me over the past 40 years. If I can be of any future assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me," wrote Sapienza.

Sapienza, a North Reading resident, has been the principal at PVMHS since 2007 and formerly taught computer science as well as serving as the president of the teachers' union.
