McCarthy Fourth-Grader Cooks Up Meal for Cafeteria Makeover

This young cook demonstrates how she makes her family favorite, "Chicken and a Biscuit," for shot at winning $30,000 for her school.

Janie is a fourth-grader at the McCarthy School, and she loves to cook.

Mom Julie Crocker-Wilson tells Peabody Patch her daughter is using is a family favorite to try and win $30,000 for her elementary school to get a cafeteria makeover.

The contest, Ben's Beginners, is run by Uncle Ben's and Rachael Ray. Parents are encouraged to film a video with their child cooking up a recipe using a brand rice product. In this case, Janie explains how she makes chicken and a biscuit.

Viewers at home can vote online once each day through Oct. 27 and the videos with the most votes get the prizes. You can vote for multiple videos per day, but only for the same video once every 24 hours.

There are prizes for school participation, finalists, the runner-up and the grand prize. In addition to the $30,000 and other cash prizes, there's also a chance at a guest spot on Rachael Ray's TV show.
