The 2012 fifth grade girls won the Peabody elementary girls citywide school championship on Thursday, March 8.

The 16 girls finished the regular season at 6-2. They started off with a lopsided loss the first game of the season and after that game immediately began to gel. They only lost one game the remainder of the season.

They entered the playoffs as the third seed and needed to beat three fantastic teams (#1 Center, #2 Burke and #4 Welch) to get to the championship game.

The championship game was played at against the Center School (#1 seed). When the girls entered the Peabody High School Field House the stands were full and the noise levels rivaled  that of  the old Garden. The girls seemed a tad nervous beginning the game, down 8-0. They fought back an eventually beat an exceptional Center School team, 17-12.
