New Essex County Flood Maps Spark Outrage at Increased Insurance Costs

Complaints about new federal flood maps for Essex County have prompted Congressman John Tierney to bring FEMA in for a public meeting on Monday.

Hundreds of Essex County property owners face steep hikes in their flood insurance bills.

That's because the Federal Emergency Management Agency recently introduced new flood maps for the region. And according to Congressman John Tierney (D-Salem), many property owners are outraged at the potential costs.

The North Shore congressman is bringing FEMA officials to Lynn on Monday for a meeting with any Essex County property owner who wants to discuss the new maps.
