YOUR TURN: Was Romney Right About the 47 Percent, or Will This Doom his Campaign?

Mother Jones released a video of Mitt Romney telling a private audience that 47 percent of Americans are dependent on the government and will never vote for him. Was this a ruinous gaffe, or has Romney told a hard political truth?

A secret video obtained by Mother Jones magazine has rocked the political world. In that video, Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney said 47 percent of Americans believe they are victims, are dependent on the government and will never vote for him. He went further, saying he wasn't worried about them. The magazine released a portion of the video Monday.

In a late night press conference Monday, Romney said the comments were not "elegantly stated," but were part of a larger conversation about the role of personal responsibility. Romney went on to say the comments were a reflection on "the political process of winning an election, and, of course, I want to help all Americans—all Americans—have a bright and prosperous future."

Mother Jones said it would release the full video by late Tuesday afternoon. UPDATE: Mother Jones posted the full video just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Do you think the video shows Romney's true feelings about half of the American electorate, or was this an out-of-context snippet? Will this hurt Romney's chances of willing the election, or is it one blip in a very long campaign? Tell us what you think in the comments below.

It is not the color of Mr 0's skin that matters, it is that: he failed our economy over 4 years (by every available statistic) he offers nothing new to change our direction; he wants to fundamentally change America, "re-distribute" ... so he cannot compromise; he is the "divider in chief" (aka recall how Mr 0-care was written/passed) , ... oh and foreign policy is no longer a strength; the current state of the middle east is not just "a bump in the road" (don't count on the lame-street media for data/facts on this subject) Did I mention: Alan West is one cool dude! “My statement to the United Nations would have been, ‘The future does not belong to those who attack our Embassies and Consulates and kill our Ambassadors. The Angel of Death in the form of an American Bald Eagle will visit you and wreak havoc and destruction upon your existence,’” http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/81659.html

I'm so sorry I got attached to this horrible line of bickering. I now get so many mean spirited emails that I can't delete them fast enough.

Sounds like you are reading before deleting them. I know I can delete 50 emails in a matter of seconds if I know the source and choose not to open them. The emails we receive about new comments are pretty obvious about where they come from. Shouldn't be to hard to avoid the "horrible line of bickering" if you really want to.

hi Mark, finally a liberal who wants and will take my advice, ha ha ha, just kidding In the email you get for each notification you should have links at the bottom which allow you to manage which articles you are following, ... if you don't see/get that then: login and go to your account page, on the left there will be a "following" link that should allow you to opt out, ... good luck

Bye, Bye Mr. Steele ... you are deleted.
