Waters River Bridge in Danvers Closing Overnight

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced that Waters River Bridge in Danvers will be closed from 10 p.m. Thursday, May 22 to 5 a.m. Friday, May 23. This will affect Water Street/Route 35.

Work crews will perform "preliminary construction activities associated with the project," which is expected to cost more than $6 million to reconstruct the bridge, according to MassDOT.

This is the detour Thursday night and into Friday morning:

Traffic traveling west on Route 114 from Salem will turn left at the intersection of Gardner Street (Route 114 West), turn left onto Pulaski Street, right onto Andover Street (Route 114 West), enter Route 128 North, proceed north to Exit 24 (Endicott Street), left on Endicott Street eastbound back to Water Street.

Traffic traveling south on Water Street will be directed to turn right onto Endicott Street westbound, enter Route 128 South,  proceed south to Exit 25A (Route 114 East),  turn left on Pulaski Street and continue to Water street.

According to MassDOT:

"MassDOT has coordinated this change with local officials and emergency services from the surrounding communities. Appropriate measures are in place to allow the work activities to be suspended in the event of an emergency.

"MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes, if possible, to avoid delays.  Drivers that must travel through the affected area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling through this area."
