Toomey, Serino Pull Papers for Ward 3 Council Seat

There's already a race shaping up in the East End of the city just over two weeks after Ward 3 City Councilor Rico Mello announced he would not seek a sixth term.

City Clerk Tim Spanos said both Tom Serino, who challenged Mello two years ago, and former councilor Bill Toomey have taken out nomination papers.

Toomey, 80, served 26 years on the council from 1974-1999, while Serino, 64, will be running his second political race.

The two are also neighbors and live on Abington Avenue.

Mello, 51, is stepping down after 10 years in office.
