Suspect in Stabbing Surrenders to Police

A 28-year-old Peabody man who was wanted for stabbing another male resident Sunday night turned himself in at court Monday afternoon.

The Salem News reports Juan Infante, 28, of 123 Washington St., Peabody, turned himself in at Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. He is charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault to murder.

Police responded to the Tremont Street  around 10:43 p.m. on Sunday to find a man lying outside in the parking lot with multiple stab wounds to the chest. The victim, a 26-year-old Peabody man, was treated at the scene and taken to Mass. General Hospital -- his wounds were not life-threatening.

Police have declined to comment on the motive behind the attack at this time, although they have said there is no indication it was a random act and the two men do know each other.
