School Board Picks Mastrocola for Next Superintendent

Joe Mastrocola will return to Peabody this summer to head up the city's schools. The former assistant superintendent was one of three finalists for the top job.

Joseph Mastrocola will return to Peabody this summer as the next superintendent of schools.

The Boston Globe reports that the School Committee voted Thursday night to select Mastrocola, who is the superintendent for Groton-Dunstable, from among . Mastrocola was formerly the assistant superintendent in Peabody for four years prior to his current position.

The other two finalists: Dr. James Kelleher and David Fischer were in town Monday and Thursday. According to the Globe, Kelleher took himself out of consideration on Tuesday, saying it wasn't a good fit for him.
