Peabody Sees Increased Unemployment from This Time Last Year

On Monday the state released the most recent unemployment numbers for towns and cities in Massachusetts. Peabody has been showing slight increases in unemployment since this time last year. 

Throughout the state, unemployment went up in most regions; specifically unemployment percentages in 16 out of the 22 areas went up. 

Peabody unemployment went up nearly a half percent from this time last year, going from 6 percent in May of 2012 to 6.4 percent in May of this year. And the unemployment rate went up slightly from April to May of this year; 6.1 to 6.4 percent.

The seasonally adjusted statewide unemployment rate went down by a tenth of a percentage point from May of last year, going from 6.7 to 6.6 percent in May of 2013. 

However, the 6.6 percent unemployment rate last month for the state is a 0.2 increase from 6.4 percent in April.
