Papers in Order for Deli/Liquor Store; Martino's Hopes to Open in Fall

Plans are moving forward for a New York style deli and package store on Route 1 South. The owner plans to open in October.

An all-alcohol package store license was finally approved by the Licensing Board this week for , which will be located at 202 Newbury St.

The approval comes after the board continued the original hearing in July, asking Martino to submit proof of notifications to abutters. The board approved the application Monday night for the city's new license.

The application had already been sent to the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission (ABCC), which has approved the license.

“Although the board has the right to approve without notices, Martino and attorney Jack Keilty were asked to file the notifications at this week’s public hearing,” said Julie Rydzewski, clerk for the Licensing Board.

Plans are underway for the build-out of the premises, according to Keilty. Work will begin on the now mostly vacant mall strip where Countrywide Home Loans once conducted business. Currently, there is a office occupying one commercial unit in the mall.

Patrons should be on the lookout for the opening of the new establishment sometime in the early fall.

“Hopes are to open on or before October 1,” said Keilty.
