Mayor Recognizes State Champs

The state champion Peabody Babe Ruth All-Stars got an official congratulations from the city for their title this summer.

Mayor Ted Bettencourt invited the 15-year-old Peabody Babe Ruth All-Stars down to City Hall last Thursday for an official recognition of their outstanding season this past summer.

The baseball club plowed through the playoffs undefeated right up to a state title at World Series Park in Saugus in June after dispatching another handful of opponents.

The ride finally came to an end in Quincy in the New England Regional Tournament, but still on a high note -- it was the first since 2000 that a 15-year-old Peabody club made it that far.

On Thursday, Bettencourt presented each player with a citation and unveiled a special commemorative display in honor of the entire team -- a street sign declaring Peabody as the "Home of Eastern Mass. Babe Ruth Baseball 15-Year-Old Champions."
