Veteran Peabody Officer O'Keefe Promoted to Lieutenant

Police Sgt. Tom O'Keefe will be publicly sworn in as the department's newest lieutenant this week.

Veteran Peabody police officer Tom O'Keefe will be formally sworn in as the department's newest lieutenant on Thursday at City Hall.

The mayor's office says a ceremony will be held in Wiggin Auditorium at 4 p.m.

O'Keefe was first appointed as a full-time officer in 1994 and promoted to Sergeant in 2001. He now fills one vacancy and bring the department's complement of lieutenants to six.

“Sergeant O’Keefe has demonstrated his commitment to public service over the course of nearly 20 years as a Peabody police officer,” Mayor Ted Bettencourt said in a statement. “His promotion to Lieutenant reflects that commitment and underscores his qualifications for this new role.”
