Unruly Taco Bell Customer Leads Salem Police on Pursuit into Peabody

By Owen Boss

A Peabody man was arrested after he led Salem Police on a chase into Peabody.

Salem Police arrested Derek F. Savage, 20, of 24 Pleasant St., Peabody, and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, second offense, assault with a dangerous weapon (shot glass), failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and malicious destruction of property valued above $250.

On Friday night at almost 11 p.m., an employee at the Taco Bell on Highland Avenue in Salem called police to report that an unruly customer had just smashed a window and fled the area in a green Nissan Altima.

When officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver reportedly fled and the subsequent pursuit ended on Pleasant Street in Peabody where police arrested the Peabody man.
