Three Home Burglaries Reported on Thursday

The following information was submitted by the Peabody Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Peabody Police Department's log:

Thursday, Aug. 8 

  • 4:40 p.m. a caller reported a homeless man that had a set a BBQ fire near a fence at an apartment complex on Caller Street and was concerned that the fire would get out of control. 
  • 5:19 p.m. a caller reported a two-car motor vehicle accident with no injuries on Aborn Street near Sutton Street. One vehicle was towed from the scene. 
  • 5:41 p.m. a caller reported a past burglary at a home on Martinack Avenue. An unknown amount of jewelry was stolen as well as other small items. 
  • 6:06 p.m. another caller reported a past breaking and entering into a home on Martinack Avenue. An officer reports entry was gained through a window with an air-conditioning unit mounted within it. It does not appear anything was taken. 
  • 6:30 p.m. a possible transformer fire was reported at Boston Pets on Andover Street. 
  • 6:36 p.m. a burglary was reported on Linden Road. A jewelry box was stolen. 
  • 9:53 p.m. a hit and run motor vehicle accident was reported on King Street. No suspect vehicle description was available. 

Friday. Aug. 9 

  • 2:17 a.m. police stopped a vehicle around the area of the Peabody Land Rover dealership on Route 1. Police arrested Christopher Smelstor, 23, of 1 Melody Road. Smelstor was charged with operating under the influence of liquor and a marked lanes violation. 
  • 4:09 a.m. a caller reported a large water main break on Gardner Street. 
  • 7:39 a.m. a caller reported that someone had slashed the tires on his vehicle that was parked at his residence on Northend Street. 
  • 10:16 a.m. a caller reported the theft of her pocketbook and credit cards at the Walgreens on Andover Street. 
  • 12:12 p.m. a three-car motor vehicle accident was reported on Lakeside School on Lowell Street. No injuries were reported. 
  • 1:33 p.m. an officer reports a large hole is forming around a manhole on Lynnfield Street across from "A Child's Place."
  • 1:41 p.m. a theft of a cell phone was reported at the Marbles the Brain Store at the Northshore Mall.
