Retiring Sgt. Fredericks Honored for 31 Years of Service

Peabody Police Sgt. Glen Fredericks is retiring after 31 years of service to the Peabody Police Department.

Fredericks has been a trailblazer in the department. First joining as a reserve officer in March 1983, Fredericks became a full-time officer two years later and became a sergeant in April 2005.

During his time with the department, he was Peabody Police’s first crime analyst, helped bring IMC Records Management to Peabody and has been the systems administrator. He also served as a school resource officer from 1993 to 1997 and redesigned the Peabody Police shoulder patch.

Fredericks is being praised not only for that work, but the lives he saved during his time on the force. He received five commendations, including two for savings people’s lives. In one case, he helped a woman having a heart attack. In the other incident, he saved people from a burning building.

He banged on the door until the resident saw him in the window. He got her out and then entered the burning building to get everyone else out.

Peabody Police Chief Robert St. Pierre said, “Glen has served the citizens of Peabody with distinction and honor for the past 31 years. Always a smile on his face, he is a very calm and unassuming officer, but very effective in the performance of his duties. Glen has been commended many times during his career.

“On two occasions, he was commended by Chief Champagne for his actions which resulted in the saving of lives. At this time, I wish to extend my best wishes to Glen and his family for a happy and healthy retirement."
