Police Searching for Suspect in Makeshift Lab at Hotel

Police are still trying to find the man that rented the hotel room where they found chemicals and possibly a crystal meth lab inside.

Police are still searching for the person they believe is in a room at the . They’re also not ready to confirm yet whether it was in fact a .

The suspect at this time, the man who rented the room, is known to , said department spokesman Capt. Dennis Bonaiuto Tuesday afternoon. He said police are still trying to locate the man.

Bonaiuto, who was at the scene himself on Sunday night, said it appeared to be a one-person operation, but that won’t be conclusive until police are able to speak with their suspect.

Detectives David Murphy and Eric Ricci are heading up the investigation on the police department’s end and are being assisted by the state police, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Bonaiuto said various details of the case, such as analysis and cataloguing of the chemicals found inside the room, what substance(s) were concocted with them and further interviews with guests and staff at the hotel, are being wrapped up.

Police have simply said there were several “dangerous” chemicals inside the room. Security at the hotel who first responded to the scene said there was lots of smoke inside the room.

As a precaution Sunday night – various ingredients used to make crystal meth are highly flammable and toxic – all 192 guests at the hotel were temporarily evacuated. No medical treatment, however, was requested for anyone at the hotel.
