Police Search for Two Masked Robbers Armed With Guns

One masked robber -- a man in his 20s -- held up Town Variety last week and the next night, another masked robber -- a woman in her 20s -- attempted to hold up Tedeschi's, but fled the scene empty-handed.

Peabody police are investigating an armed robbery at Town Variety from last week as well as an attempted holdup at Tedeschi Food Shops on Main Street.

On Dec. 18, a masked man reportedly held up the Central Street convenience store at gunpoint. The incident was reported at 9:22 p.m.

The suspect was described as a male wearing a black hooded jacket with a mask that covered his face up to his nose. He was also wearing gray sweatpants and had a blue drawstring bag or backpack.

According to police, a handgun was shown during the robbery and two males left the scene on foot headed toward Peabody Square on Central Street.

Detectives located one person matching the suspect's description on Lowell Street near Red Cross, but then determined he was too young to fit the description and was sent on his way, according to a log entry.

Another person told police he was walking on Wallis Street near the post office at approximately 9:30 p.m. when he was approached by a man who asked if he saw any police in the area.

He said the man was in his mid 20s, about five feet eight inches tall, clean shaven and wearing a dark jacket, knit hat and a dark colored backpack.

The next night, shortly after 7 p.m., a masked woman armed with a handgun reportedly tried to rob Tedeschi's on Main Street, but then fled when she was realized there were other people inside the convenience store.

According to police, she showed the gun and demanded money from an employee. She then fled on foot toward Holten Street and headed up the street the wrong way in a green sedan.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic female wearing all dark clothing and a mask covering her face. She was about 21 and five feet six inches tall with a skinny build and her hair pulled back.

According to police, she may also be a suspect in robberies in Lynn and Belmont.
