Police Search for Robber Who Accosted Woman on Endicott Street

A male suspect in dark clothing stole a purse from a woman out walking near the downtown shortly after midnight.

Peabody police are searching for a male suspect who robbed a woman on Endicott Street around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Peabody Detective Michael Crane said the woman called police, reporting she had been walking along the street when she was accosted by a tall, dark-skinned male wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt.

She said she fell to the ground at one point and dropped her purse, which the thief grabbed. The male then fled on foot down the street.

Crane said the woman did not report any injuries and no weapon was shown during the robbery. A state police K-9 unit did assist in a search for the suspect, but was unable to pick up his trail.

Crane said the incident is still under investigation.
