Police: Officers Arrest Two Repeat Drunk Drivers
Friday, June 13
At 3:41 p.m., Northshore Mall security reported a shoplifting of a purse or backpack. Police took a report.
At 4:12 p.m., a Walgreens employee reported a customer stole an electric toothbrush. Police will summons the suspect, who is a 59-year-old Peabody woman, to court and charge her with shoplifting more than $100 by concealing merchandise.
At 8:08 p.m., Salem Police notified Peabody Police after an assault and battery involving a Peabody resident occurred in that city. Police arrested Richard D. Hofacre, 57, 35 Oak St, Peabody, and charged him on two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and mayhem.

At 9:08 p.m., police responded to Park Street about youths throwing rocks at vehicles. Police did not find any problems.

Saturday, June 14
At 1:20 a.m., police arrested Jeffrey Engel Lambe, 22, 22 Westover Drive, Lynnfield, and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor and failing to use care. Police made the arrest after a three-car accident on Washington Street.
At 1:52 p.m., police arrested Preston P. Ferraro Jr., 28, 91 Cabot St., Apt. 16, Beverly, and charged him on three warrants for violating an abuse prevention order, larceny from a person and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Police made the arrest on Margin Street.
At 4:50 p.m., a woman reported that she left her pocketbook on a bench outside of Shaw’s and it was taken. One hundred dollars and a book of stamps were in the pocketbook.
At 5:14 p.m., police arrested Robert Devarenne, 53, 56 Washington St., Apt. 3, Peabody, and charged him with disorderly conduct, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and threatening to commit a crime. Police made the arrest after the report of a fight on Foster Street. Devarenne was also later charged with additional counts: threatening to commit a crime, resisting arrest, intimidating a witness and disturbing the peace.
At 5:21 p.m., a J.C. Penney employee reported a shoplifter tried to steal $143 worth of merchandise. The store handled the matter and released her to her parents.
At 5:44 p.m., an H&M employee reported two shoplifters. The store handled the matter and gave them a no trespassing order for one year.
At 10:40 p.m., police summonsed a 51-year-old Peabody man to court and charged him with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license (subsequent offense) and a motor vehicle lights violation.
Sunday, June 15
At 12:19 a.m., police arrested John Mello, 21, 1 Gable Circle, Salem, and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor (second offense) and a moped violation. Police made the arrest during a traffic stop at Central and Endicott streets.
At 2:38 a.m., police arrested Gregory J. Darr, 23, 16 Thoreau Circle, Beverly, and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor (second offense), possessing a Class D drug with the intent to distribute and possessing a Class B drug. Police made the arrest on Newbury Street.
At 9:02 a.m., police notified the Department of Public Services about a large sinkhole forming in a Crowninshield Street parking lot. The sink home was about 15 feet deep, according to police.
At 11:31 a.m., police responded to Lowell Street after a four-car accident. There were no reported injuries.
