Police Log: Elderly Driver Hits Walgreens

Wednesday, Feb. 12

At 2:07 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Summit Street. One driver was taken to Salem Hospital and her car was towed.

At 2:48 p.m., police received a call about a car bumper in the middle of Essex Center Drive. A Northshore Mall security guard removed it from the road.

At 2:57 p.m., police responded to Walgreens on Andover Street after an 87-year-old Peabody woman hit the building with her car. The Fire Department notified the building inspector. Walgreens closed the business because of the structural damage. There were no reported injuries.

At 3:13 p.m., police received a call from Lynn Street about a child having trouble walking. The caller said the child was about 10 years old and fell repeatedly. The person said three or four other children with the boy may have tried to help him up. Police spoke to a group of youths in the area, but found no problems.

At 3:40 p.m., police summonsed a 24-year-old Peabody woman to court and charged her with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle that does not meet Registry of Motor Vehicles safety standards. Police summonsed the woman to court during a traffic stop on Lynn Street.

At 7:29 p.m., police responded to a Newbury Street business about a stolen iPhone 4s valued at $250. Police will view surveillance footage to identify a suspect.

At 7:34 p.m., an H&M employee notified police about a shoplifter. The store handled the matter.

At 8:09 p.m., police arrested Shiela M. Sarro, 54, 200 Jubilee Drive, Peabody, and charged her on a warrant for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Police made the arrest on Jubilee Drive.

Thursday, Feb. 13

At 11:03 a.m., police asked the Department of Public Works to sand and salt in front of the Police Department because the conditions were getting hazardous.

At 11:57 a.m., an officer ticketed five motorists parked on Holten Street during the parking ban. One car was towed.

At 1:03 p.m., police arrested Martin Cumiskey, 53, 31 Clement Ave., Peabody, and charged him on warrants for possessing a Class B substance and disorderly conduct. Police made the arrest at Blaney Avenue and Washington Street.

At 1:07 p.m., a MBTA vehicle struck a wooden guardrail on Walnut Street. There were no reported injuries.

At 1:45 p.m., police helped move a tractor-trailer and trash truck stuck on the ramp to Route 1 from Lowell Street.

At 1:52 p.m., police issued three parking tickets to cars parked on Park Street during the parking ban.
