A 43-year-old Peabody man is in custody for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, according to the Essex County District Attorney's Office.

Franklin Castano, 50 Key Drive, Peabody, turned himself in at the Lynn Police Station. He was charged with murdering his 23-year-old girlfriend.

Police and the Essex County District Attorney's office descended on Keys Drive near the Northshore Mall on Thursday to investigate the murder.

Castano will be held overnight at Middleton Jail and is expected to be arraigned Friday morning at Peabody District Court, according to the DA's office.

This murder is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Essex District Attorney's Office, Peabody and Lynn Police. The DA's office said no further information will be released at this time.

This is not the first time Castano was involved in a domestic dispute.

He's been charged at least two times for domestic violence-related crimes.

In 2012, Castano, then living in Lynn, was charged with assault with a machete and butcher knife after he allegedly threatened his then 21-year-old girlfriend's life.

After possibly becoming jealous of another man putting his arm around his girlfriend during her birthday party, he reportedly pulled out a "large black sword" and threatened to kill his girlfriend. He then went and got a butcher knife and threatened her again, the Lynn Item reported in 2012.

He was also charged with domestic assault and battery in Salem in 2010.

She was a grown woman. She was allowed to make decisions, none of which warranted her brutal death at the hands of a boyfriend. Your attempts to slander her and her reputation are childish, disgusting, and reprehensible. You should be ashamed of yourself. She is not here to defend herself and you can go straight to hell. Judging by your comments, you probably will.

Hey Efrain, The only "reliable source" I'm guessing was the bed the victim supposedly had sex in. Did it tell you its secrets? Don't minimize this crime with allegations of her sexual activities, that in really does not warrant death.

Even if she had sex with a million men, it still doesn't justify the horrible way her life was stolen from her. Angel, you are all wrong, and that line of thinking is the same philosophy that allows these things to keep happening. You are totally ignorant. Nothing she did could have lead to her deserving this.
