Peabody Man Arrested in Connection to Armed Robbery at Town Variety

A 41-year-old Peabody man was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with an armed robbery Sunday night at a downtown convenience store.

Peabody police arrested a Peabody man Monday afternoon on a warrant in connection to an armed robbery at Town Variety the night before.

Glenn E. Roderick, 41, of 18 Elm St. #2, Peabody, was served with an outstanding warrant from Peabody District Court for a charge of armed robbery with a firearm. According to a police log entry, Roderick was taken into custody by Detective Joseph Gilroy at approximately 1:49 p.m. at 117 Lowell St.

Police had been searching for Roderick and another male suspect since shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday when the robbery occurred. Both state police K-9s and helicopters aided in the search Sunday night.

According to a log entry of the incident, the Central Street convenience store was robbed by a white male in his 40s who was dressed in a dark plaid green jacket, black winter hat and jeans. The man wielded a small black handgun during the robbery.

Police shortly identified two suspects, one of them being Roderick and the other a Lynn man and obtained a warrant for Roderick's arrest on the aforementioned charge.

According to state police, one suspect was seen running into a house at 86R Endicott St. shortly after the robbery while a second person who was possibly involved was outside the home. As officers arrived, the first suspect ran out a rear door and then police discovered the second man had taken off as well before they could question him.

Peabody Police Detective Michael Crane confirmed Monday afternoon that Roderick was arrested in connection with the robbery and said the incident is still actively under investigation.
