Peabody Woman Dies From Injuries in Hit-and-Run

A 75-year-old woman who was the victim of a hit-and-run accident on Central Street Friday night has died from her injuries.

A 75-year-old Peabody woman who was hospitalized in critical condition Friday night after being struck by a car on Central Street has died from her injuries.

The Salem News reports a family member confirmed with the paper that Patricia Fleury succumbed to her injuries Monday evening at Mass. General Hospital in Boston. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance Friday night.

Fleury was struck near 22 Central St. -- she lived at 20 Central St. -- by a red Nissan reportedly operated by a 25-year-old Danvers woman who fled the scene.

That woman -- Kristiana Alexandrou -- returned home, parked her car and walked the short distance to the Danvers police station to turn herself in, according to police.

She told officers she hit someone in Peabody with her car.

The latest update from police and the Essex County District Attorney's office is that the accident is still under investigation. A state police reconstruction team is working on the case.

DA spokesman Steve O'Connell said no formal charges have been filed at this point; however, Peabody police indicated they expected to charge Alexandrou with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

She was not arrested at the time.
