Two Drivers Cited After Striking Pole; Pedestrian Struck By Car

The following information was provided by the Peabody Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following excerpts are from reports in the Peabody Police Department press log from Nov. 16-17.

Saturday, Nov. 16

  • 3:48 p.m. James R. Pempsell, 28, of Saugus, was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop on Route 128 North. He was charged with a marked lanes violation and driving with a suspended license.
  • 5:24 p.m. Report of a possible broken water main on Mill Street.
  • 6:21 p.m. A caller at the Hess gas station on Lowell Street reported an erratic operator was swerving over the double yellow lines and then turned onto Johnson Street.
  • 6:57 p.m. Ronald J. Bulger, 55, of 5 Abbott St., Salem, was arrested, following a report of a shoplifter at Stop & Shop. He was charged with shoplifting by concealing merchandise and on two warrants.
  • 7:15 p.m. A caller on Lynnfield Street reported a possible active burglary at the home. The caller was on the second floor and could feel the house shaking and noises downstairs. Police checked the home and said it was secure.
  • 8:16 p.m. A caller on Perley Avenue reported receiving a threatening message from his brother. That man was then issued a court summons on two counts of making threats to commit a crime (murder).
  • 9:32 p.m. An officer was assigned to traffic detail to assist Salem police with a car accident in their city near Sutton Street. That officer was called away two hours later, however, to respond to a fight at the Roadhouse Pub.
  • 9:53 p.m. A motor vehicle with New York license plates rolled over in the ditch on Hotel Road. State police were notified and the vehicle was pulled out of the ditch by a tow.
  • 10:33 p.m. A caller reported there was a water main break in front of her house on Herbert Avenue.
  • 11:55 p.m. A 42-year-old man was transported to Salem Hospital after a report of a fight at the Roadhouse Pub. An officer said the fight had ended before he arrived at the scene.

Sunday, Nov. 17

  • 2 a.m. A caller at a Rockdale Park apartment reported his downstairs neighbor was banging on the floor and being loud. An officer said all was quiet at the time. The man called back 20 minutes later to complain the neighbor had now banged on his door and yelled at him while loud music also began to play again from another unit. An office spoke to both neighbors, who accused each other of making too much noise. They were advised to quiet down for the night and go to bed.
  • 12:34 p.m. A Bartholomew Street resident reported someone broke the antenna off his car.
  • 3:07 p.m. Two cars struck a pole at the intersection of King and Lowell streets. Both vehicles were towed and the drivers were cited by an officer. One driver was taken to Salem Hospital with injuries. Police said a protection column for a fire hydrant was also damaged.
  • 4:45 p.m. A pedestrian was struck by a car at the intersection of Gardner and Pulaski streets. The patient was complaining of back pain and taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital. The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
  • 5:27 p.m. Security at the Northshore Mall reported a person stole a shopper's jacket. The officers located the person inside the mall and it apparently was all just a misunderstanding -- the victim had put her jacket down to try on an item and the suspect picked it up.
  • 5:48 p.m. Two Chelsea residents were issued court summonses on charges of shoplifting.
  • 8:04 p.m. Michael Hallberg, 47, of 78 Goodale St., Peabody, was arrested, following a report of a domestic incident at his home. He was charged with domestic assault and battery, making threats to commit a crime and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
  • 10:20 p.m. Yago D. DaSilva, 21, of 46 Walnut St. #1, Peabody, was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop at the corner of Lowell Street and Karelitz Road. He was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
