Peabody Man Charged With Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs

The driver struck a pole and car and fled the scene.

A Peabody man was charged with multiple driving offenses, including operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, after he struck a pole and motor vehicle on Washington Street on Saturday morning.

Police received multiple calls about the accidents at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The driver left the scene, but his vehicle had a flat.

A short time later, police found the driver. He was taken to Salem Hospital and his vehicle was towed.

The 49-year-old Peabody man was summonsed to court and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, failing to use care in starting, stoping, turning and backing up, driving on the sidewalk, failing to stop/yield, a marked lanes violation, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and recklessly operating a motor vehicle.
