Peabody Firefighters Come to Rescue of Injured Swan

This swan was camped out in the marshy area by the lake.

Peabody firefighters Ryan Mulvey, Adam Skelton and John Spofford rescued an injured swan by Crystal Lake Monday morning.

Dispatchers received a call initially just before 11 a.m. from a person reporting there was an injured swan near the corner of Lowell Street and Crystal Drive (in the marshy area by the lake).

The swan appeared to be "sunning" itself.

I drove by and am surprised the swan didn't move when the firefighters were standing right next to him/her. Glad to hear it was ok.

I think that there are 2 swans living in Crystal Lake. One of them was in the middle of Lowell Street a couple of weeks ago and animal control had to come out to net it and get it back to the lake. The swan(s) occasionally try to cross over to Russell Street, for some reason. I hope this swan wasn't hit by a car. They are just gorgeous to watch on the lake.
