Police Say Pedestrian Accident Turns Out Not as it Seemed

A pedestrian accident that was initially reported as a hit-and-run may have been incorrectly reported due to a language barrier.

Peabody police say that a reported hit-and-run accident Friday afternoon involving a mother and her child may turn out not to be a hit-and-run after all.

Police Lt. Tom O'Keefe said the matter in still under investigation, but appeared to be incorrectly reported initially due to a language barrier.

Peabody firefighters and police responded to 44 Holten St. around 2:45 p.m. on a report that a mother and her child were struck by a motor vehicle that left the scene.

O'Keefe said officers did actually speak to the motorist at the scene, contrary to what was initially indicated over the scanner. He said the child, at least, was taken to the hospital, but without serious injury and it was unclear if either of the two were actually struck by the vehicle.
