State Police Nab Most Wanted Sex Offender

One of the top 10 most wanted sex offenders wanted for not registering was arrested in Beverly on Monday.

A man added to the top 10 most wanted sex offender list on Monday for registered sex offenders who have failed to register was arrested in Beverly on Monday.

Placido Valdez Jr. was arrested by the state police's Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section after police received information that he was in Beverly. Valdez, 34, was taken to the state police barracks in Danvers where he was booked and is scheduled to be arraigned in Lynn District Court on Tuesday morning.

According to a state police wanted poster, Valdez had been known to be living in Lynn and has ties to Peabody and Salem.

State police did not say exactly where they arrested Valdez or offer any specifics about the circumstances surrounding his arrest, other than it was made without incident.

According to the Beverly police log, a detective went with state police to Fayette Street at about 12:30 p.m. to make the arrest.

Valdez faces two counts of failing to register as a Level 2 or 3 sex offender and failure to provide sex offender information out of Lynn District Court.

Valdez is required to register as a sex offender after a conviction in 2000, for rape of a child and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 at Valdez' former residence in Salem.
