Missing Peabody Woman Found in Salem

The elderly Peabody woman, who has a history of Alzheimer's, was found safe and sound on Bridge Street in Salem.

An 85-year-old Peabody woman, who went missing from her home on Davis Terrace, was found this afternoon in Salem by police officers. The woman has a history of Alzheimer's.

Police said Violet Newey of Peabody was located at Jefferson at Salem Station, a condo complex near the MBTA station, at approximately 1:20 p.m.

She did not appear to be physically injured in any way, but an ambulance was called to the scene to evaluate her as a precaution and transport her to Salem Hospital.

Newey's husband reported her as missing this morning around 10:30 a.m. after he awoke to find her gone. He told Peabody police he last saw her around 10 p.m. last night on her way up to bed.

Peabody and Salem police searched the general area, along with a state police air wing, this morning until finally locating her in Salem, about 1.5 miles from her home.

Incidentally, Peabody and Danvers police were searching for another elderly missing person shortly before Newey's husband called this morning.

An 88-year-old man who was shopping at Trader Joe's with his wife apparently wandered off around 10 a.m. He was found about an hour later down the road at Kane's Flower World in Danvers.
