Firefighters Remember Their Fallen Brothers Sunday
Firefighters Memorial Sunday will be celebrated in Peabody and elsewhere on June 9 this year.
Peabody firefighters, their families and the department's retirees plan to gather Sunday morning at Cedar Grove Cemetery to remember their fallen brothers. Firefighters Memorial Sunday is celebrated nationwide as a day of remembrance.
Since 1876, the Peabody department has lost 10 active-duty firefighters, most recently James Rice, who died battling a three-alarm house fire on Dec. 23, 2011.
The ceremony will begin Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast will then be served at Fire Headquarters following the ceremony.
