Peabody firefighters responded to a garage fire at 48 Paleologos St. on Thursday night and arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames.
Peabody Fire Department engines raced to the call just before 6:30 p.m. and crews were still hosing down the remains of the garage at 7:20 p.m. The structure was located in the corner of a lot next to a two-story home, which also suffered some visible damage from the flames.
Deputy Fire Chief Joe Daly said there were no injuries and confirmed there was a vehicle inside the garage.
Daly said the homeowner appeared to have been cooking inside the garage and left the burner on. At this time, he said, the fire appears to be accidental.
A truck from Mallia's Towing arrived around 7:30 p.m. to remove the vehicle from the charred remains of the garage. The vehicle looked to be a van.
Around 9:15 p.m., the four fire engines had cleared the scene, but police were still blocking off Paleologos Street at Tremont Street.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
According to city property records, the home is owned by Thay Van Nguyen and Tri Cao Nguyen.
