Drunken Man Reportedly Enters Kappy's With Stolen Shirts, Demands Taxi

A 51-year-old Danvers man was ultimately charged with receiving stolen property.

A Danvers man was arrested Monday night after running into the Kappy's Liquors in Peabody and demanding employees call him a taxi. What was odd about the situation, was that he was carrying a large stack of New England Patriots tee shirts and he appeared to be drunk.

Gregory Hardin, 51, of 18 Macarthur Blvd., Danvers, was charged with receiving stolen property over $250.

Peabody police initially received a call at approximately 9:15 p.m. from Kappy's, reporting that an intoxicated man carrying a large number of tee shirts just ran into the store and demanded employees call him a cab.

According to a police log entry, the man was described as wearing a Sturgis tee shirt and had a scruffy beard. He left the store on foot toward Peabody Glen Health Care Center up the road on Route 114, still carrying a large stack of Patriots shirts.

The man was finally located by officers near Sylvan Street and taken into custody.

An officer later reported returning merchandise related to this incident at Sears the following afternoon. The department store is located at the front of the Northshore Mall across the street from Kappy's.
