Driver That Allegedly Hit Mrs. Tierney's Car Issued Ticket

The driver that hit U.S. Rep. John Tierney’s wife from behind in a car crash last week in Danvers has been issued a ticket, according to a report in the Boston Herald.

The Herald, citing a Danvers police report, said that Dawn Borrelli, 42, of Salisbury was issued a ticket for failure to use care in stopping. She allegedly told police that she was blinded by the sun.

The crash happened at the corner of Centre and Hobart streets, near Highlands Elementary School, at 8:21 a.m. on Tuesday. Patrice Tierney, wife of U.S. Rep. John Tierney (D-Salem) was injured and taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital, where she was treated and released that day.

John Tierney was not in the car and was instead up in Gloucester at the time, announcing support for his campaign for reelection from a variety of city leaders there. Tierney is facing a challenge from Republican Richard Tisei.

Police said Borrelli’s 2003 Ford hit Tierney’s 2012 Volkswagen Beetle from behind. In the Herald article, it showed a photo of Tierney’s damaged Beetle in a tow yard, sporting a Tierney for Congress sticker on the rear window.

The Herald, citing the police report, said that a witness told them Borelli never tried to stop and there were no skid marks on the road.
