Ding-Dong Ditchers Forced to Apologize to Victim

The following are excerpts from reports in the Peabody Police Department press log from July 17-18.

Wednesday, July 17

  • 2:14 p.m. a Western Union scam was reported on Corporation Way. 
  • 3:44 p.m. a three-car accident was reported on Centennial Drive at Route 128. No injuries were reported but two of the vehicles were towed from the scene. 
  • 4:08 p.m. a past assault and batter was reported at the YMCA. 
  • 4:20 p.m. a road rage incident was reported on Margin Street. The caller reported that someone had followed him into the Treadwells Ice Cream Stand area following a road rage incident. The individual called back and said he no longer needed to speak with an officer. 
  • 6:07 p.m. three counterfeit bills were reported on McDonald's on Main Street. Police confiscated the bills and will investigate the matter through video footage from the store. 
  • 6:28 p.m. a brush fire was reported on Downing Road. Peabody Fire extinguished the blaze. 
  • 6:51 p.m. a caller reported two males that were "throwing water oute of the window" at people walking on the sidewalk on Lowell Street. An officer located the individuals, who admitted to squirting water at pedestrians, at a Hess Station and advised them of the dangers of distracting drivers. 
  • 6:58 p.m. a caller reported that someone had been playing "ding-dong ditch" at his home that past few nights on Christopher Terrace and that it was annoying him. He was able to get the plate number and the officer was able to identify the pranksters. The officer rounded up all parties involved and made them apologize to the victim. 
  • 7:53 p.m. an injured donkey was reported at Brooksby Farm on Felton Street. An officer located nobody at the farm and no injured animals. 

Thursday, July 18

  • 2:08 a.m. a caller reported a large TV that was dumped at the end of Stacia Road. 
  • 6:29 a.m. police assisted US Marshalls in the apprehension of a suspect with an outstanding warrant. Police arrested Shane Hansen, 28, of 176 Newbury St., Apt. 8. Hansen was arrested on an outstanding warrant. An ambulance was requested for the incident. 
  • 9:05 a.m. a man was summonsed for purchasing merchandise at the Peabody Supply Company under a false name. 
  • 10:50 a.m. police investigated a past breaking and entering into an apartment on Lowell Street. 
  • 1:49 p.m. police arrested Arao Dornela, 36, of 23 Manon St., Apt. 2. Dornela was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and failure to display the owner's name.
