Peabody Man Nabbed for Cocaine After Web Tip-Off

A Peabody man was arrested by Beverly police detectives after they used information received from an online tip regarding drug activity.

A Peabody man is facing drug charges after Beverly police detectives launched an investigation based on a tip from the department’s website.

David Davis 47, of 13 Jacobs St. in Peabody was charged with possession with intent to distribute Class B drugs, cocaine plus operating with a revoked registration, operating without insurance and operating with an expired inspection sticker.

The investigation started when the police’s Criminal Investigations Division received a web tip about what somebody suspected was drug activity near Rantoul Street and Federal Street.

Based on that information, detectives conducted surveillance in the area and later saw what they believed was a drug deal. Afterward, police stopped Davis’ vehicle for motor vehicle violations and conducted a search of his vehicle and of him.

Police said they “recovered a significant amount of cocaine” and made the arrest. Taking part in the surveillance and arrest was Detective Sgt. Dave Faustino and Detective Dana Nicholson.

Police used the arrest as an opportunity to encourage Beverly citizens to leave web tips if  they feel illegal activity is taking place is their neighborhood. Police also applauded the citizen who sent in the tip.
